Why Southern California Technical College?

The field of Early Childhood Education is a valued field and a growing recognition to improve lives of the children. This field encourages educators with an exciting and an encouraging future in California Early Learning and Development system. The mission of Southern California Technical College is to provide high quality education and skills that are effective for the purpose of training early childhood educators with effective educational programs in this field.

Our goal is to train educators to identify and describe the knowledge and skills that young children typically develop when provided with developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate learning experiences.

Changes over the past few years have improved Early Childhood Education as a billion Dollar business, and our training center has a curriculum which will meet the demand for Educators in this field with qualified staff.

Southern California Technical College is approved by the Health & Safety Institute (HSI) to teach the MEDIC First Aid PediatricPlus training program. We now offer Basic Life Support (BLS) training for healthcare providers. HSI’s MEDIC First Aid PediatricPlus training program is approved statewide by the California EMS Authority (EMSA) and fulfills California training requirements for childcare providers (22 CA ADC § 100000.17).

Hello, My name is Champa Perera and I have been a Montessori/Preschool Director for over 34 years.  Passion for working with children has never changed since I started my career in Early Childhood Education since 1985.

My education background is fulfilled with an Associate Degree in Child Development, Liberal Arts, Bachelor’s in Psychology, and in Master of Arts in Education/Adult Education & Training. I have also received a Child Development Site Supervisors Permit issued by the Department of Education.

Hello, My name is Champa Perera and I have been a Montessori/Preschool Director for over 34 years.  My passion for working with children has never changed since I started my career in Early Childhood Education in 1985.

I am also a Gateway Trainer for the Child Care Alliance of Los Angeles, teaching adults in the field of Early Childhood Education and Professional Development training in this field.​

I am also an approved EMSA Trainer (Emergency Medical Services Authority) for the training Preventive Health & Safety – 8 hrs and an HSI (Health & Safety Institute) trainer for First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor for Adult/Child/Infants Child Care Providers Course, using curriculum and materials approved by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority, Preventive Health Training Program. The course includes 1 hour of Nutrition and instruction in the prevention of Lead exposure, as required by California Health and Safety Code Section 1596.866.

I have been in the field of education for more than 25 years. My vast experience in teaching spans from early childhood education to the college level. My career began in Sri Lanka, and it is now firmly established in the US.
It was instilled in me very early that education is the one thing that no one can take away from me and therefore education, is a very important part of my life. I believe that every person is capable of learning and reaching their highest potential. I continue to grow as I dwell on new research and always seek innovative teaching methods for engagement and use best practices. I am deeply grateful that I get the opportunity to impart my knowledge and facilitate the learning of another person.

Manisha commenced her employment career in the Human Resources field in her home country, Sri Lanka. She has contributed to the field of Human Resources by way of introducing performance management systems and incentive programs for employees. She switched over to the education field in 2013. Her interest in the Education field started when she had her daughter in 2010. Since then, she has contributed to the field of education as a teacher working with children aged 18 months to 6 years of age. Her work experience expands into areas such as working with children with special needs. She is now an Owner/ Director of a private Montessori school and is continuing to expand her business into other cities. She believes that the Montessori method of education when applied to schools in their formative years helps children to inculcate good values and principles in life. Manisha earned her bachelor’s in business management and a Master’s in educational Business Administration.

Hello, My name is Gayoshi Rodrigo and I have been an early childhood educator for over 20 years. My experience as an educator began as a teacher and mentor at Canyon Vista Children’s Academy, and continues today as the Regional Leader and Education Advisor of Sake Oak Charter School.

I received my Bachelor’s in Education and Child Psychology, followed by a Multiple Subject Credential and Master’s of Arts in Special Education from CSU Northridge. I have also fulfilled my Education Specialist Credentials from the National University of Los Angeles.

Whether you are just beginning your journey to becoming a child care provider or if you have years of experience, we focus on training and individual support for caregivers who are interested in providing care for infants/toddlers & Preschoolers.
